Effective Time Management
Traditionally, education has been centered around in-person lectures within physical classrooms, with tutor-student interaction perceived as strictly face-to-face. However, with advancements in technology, online schooling has emerged with varying degrees of success. Despite its benefits, many students and potential learners find virtual education challenging and sometimes insufficient. Balancing student life with work and other commitments can be overwhelming, requiring a high level of self-motivation and discipline. Managing distractions in a home environment further adds to the difficulty. These challenges often stem from deeply ingrained expectations that learning should take place within the structured setting of a physical classroom.
Motivation and Team Work
As a first-time online student, my experience so far, along with insights from an informal interview with a friend also enrolled in an online program, has been enlightening. The flexibility of online classes allows for self-paced learning, making it easier to balance studies with other responsibilities. Additionally, the opportunity to interact with classmates from different parts of the world without the burden of travel costs or work disruptions adds to the overall learning experience. However, the key to success in online education is motivation. While some students receive financial support from employers or family, all online learners must share a strong passion for their subject and a commitment to independent studying to truly benefit from this mode of education.
Collaborated on Ideas
While circumstances and situations vary, it is important to take full advantage of the benefits that online learning offers, such as expanded networking, collaboration, and idea-sharing. This creates exposure to innovative and diverse perspectives. My experience with online classes has been both exciting and enlightening. I have connected with people from different countries and continents, finding common ground despite cultural differences. Through discussions and collaborative projects, I have shared ideas, gained new insights, and built friendships that go beyond the virtual classroom, making online learning a truly enriching experience.
Keep Focused and Track Progress
Drinking two litres of water a day and having a sleep schedule has drastically improved my focus and ability to concentrate, but more so having a set plan already in place, I no longer open my books and waste precious time wondering what to do or where to focus. I can look at my chart and see exactly what I need to do and get started straight away.
After all the hard work, it’s very rewarding to cross off the topics on your calendar to show how far you have come. This can help keep you on track and stay motivated and give you the best chance of success.
My experience of distance learning has been exciting and enlightening! I have got to know people from various countries and continents.

A few of my friends are also studying, having other friends who I can ‘study buddy’ with or check in, keeps us all determined and on track. Scheduling in catch-up time can give much needed respite without panic. This keeps your goals realistic and manageable.
